Social Networking Has Gone to the Dogs.
So what do MIT Media lab graduates do when they love dogs, and are shy at dating? They create a new way for animal lovers to meet! It has taken them three years of development, but last fall Noah Paessel, Phil Liang, and Jon Gips launched the Snif Tag.

Social Networking Via The Web Goes To The Dogs!
Okay now, the Sniff Tag?? What is that you ask? Well its a tag, that goes on a dog collar, which connects to a social website.
Each dog, puppy or pooch who is the proud wearer of a Sniff Tag on their collar will also get a profile on sniftag.com. Now whenever two dogs wearing a Sniff Tag walk near each other, a signal races between the tags and is then transmitted to the Snif Tag site. Dog owners can log on and see which dogs they strolled by on any day and, if they want to, send a friend request to a particular dog. Profiles offer information like breed, age, gender, and weight. They also offer Facebook like status updates.
Sniff Tag CEO Noah Paessel says, “The invention was inspired by the old premise that there’s no better wingman than a dog. Before Zoe, I wouldn’t talk to anybody,” the now-married Paessel says, referring to an Italian greyhound he lived with in his bachelor days. “But with her, I talked to people all the time. Not just girls, but certainly that was helpful.”
Now the Sniff Tag offers more than just networking and the ability to meet potential dates. Sniff Tag also offers:
Monitoring: The Sniff Tag lets you know what your dog is doing even if you are not around.
Health: Use the Sniff Tag to monitor your dogs activity and adjust feeding accordingly.
History: Sniff Tag offers history for the hour, week, month…. so you can compare what your dog is doing.
Compare: Compare your dogs stats with others on Sniff Tag.
Text from the website says, “Having your best friend at your side is a great way to meet new people, and the SNIF Tag makes it even easier. By recording encounters with other SNIF dogs, your SNIF Tag becomes more than a pet monitoring device– it’s a tool for social networking that expands your circle of friends every time you take your pup for a walk. The SNIF Tag makes building new friendships safe and easy, whether in the park, at the dog run, or just out and about.”
Now when this product first came on the market it was available to consumers for $299, for a starter price that also included a one-year subscription to the company’s online monitoring service and social site. Now, the website states the price is $149 with a lifetime service. Not a bad deal to monitor your pets and gather friends.
Just think the ability to network with Facebook like features, the ability to meet other animal lovers, the ability to make friends, and lastly monitor your animals activity. The future of Social Media, not only for you but your animals.

Why would Google want to pay MILLIONS for Twitter?
This is a no brainer. According to Adage.com, Twitter.com is one of the fastest rising social networks with 7.1 million users and an unbelievable growth rate of 1,382% (January 2008 to January 2009). Do you Twitter? Most likely, if you are reading this, you have a Twitter account. Did you start out like the rest of us? I remember my first few days “twittering”. I couldn’t believe people actually did this. Microblogging? What was that?
Okay so let me get this… I type a one sentence “update” about something I am doing, or something I want to broadcast to perfect strangers as important information. Are you crazy? YES! Yes, I do all of that and more. I started off slowly, then added one follower… my dear friend Dawn. Slowly more joined, and then more and then more. I started posting my blogs, news that was important in my industry, and OH NOOOOO!!!, I started retweeting things I saw from other people. I found a search feature that allowed me to search all of Twitter, all of their followers, and search for “Real Time” updates and news. More often than not, I knew about the latest industry trends before the news channels did. Why? Because someone Tweeted about it, added a link, and I was able to get the information immediate and first hand.
So what does Twitter do now? Ok, so they release Twitter Job Search. Is there any doubt in your mind about how fast this will explode? The Twitter Job Search website states that it has posted, “37,105 new jobs in the last 7 days.” Over 30,000 jobs in 7 days, for a new website! They even have a mantra, “Until now, search engines for social media sites merely looked for words. We’re looking at context. We use semantic tools to look at what was said. We then look at what they’ve said before. We then look at who was saying it. If we do this right, we can figure out why they’re saying anything at all.”
You have the ability to search for jobs by category and niche within a category, from there you can look at the job posting, retweet it or follow the poster… much like Twitter itself.
Now all the gossip rags have said Google is in late stage talks with Twitter to buy them out. Still other refute the claim.
So what is the deal? It seems only Twitter and Google know. The bottom line.. it really doesn’t matter. Either by acquisition or through their own form of real time “Twitter” like microblogging and searching source, Google needs to make a move…and they are well aware of it!
To Google, Twitter is uncatchable right now, and they do not like being behind on any new technology or trend. Every time Twitter releases a new way to search, talk, or update… Google loses a small piece of its pie. So what does a big dog do when a little dog is snapping at its heels? Either buy it, or beat it.
That’s where they are right now. Buy it or beat it…so the rumors that Google is in talks to buy Twitter…. believable! The rumor that Google is in talks to have Twitter help create a real time Twitter like search feature and microblogging application…. again believable! We will know when they want us to know. The true question is not when will some sort of deal be made, but HOW MUCH will it be worth!

Should you really be blogging? Or are you just well trained “fluff girls”?
What is a fluff girl? Wiktionary states,
“fluff girl (plural fluff girls)
- (porn industry) any of the women employed to stimulate the male actors before filming.”
Now that could sound slightly harsh, but is it truly? Pablo Picasso said, “Bad artists copy. Great artists steal. ”
This is even more prevalent in blogging and website content. It seems everyone is an expert in their field, but what truly makes them an expert? Do they have a proven track record that they freely publish? Client referrals? Continuing education and classes? OR……….. do they just have an opinion?
Now being very opinionated myself, at times… I value opinions and great debate. I even, recently, had a relative disagree with me about my “Texas” blog. It brought on great debate, debate that I believe this fine country of ours was founded on, the very basis of our political system. BUT if opinion is all you have, and you have to steal the rest to even know what you are talking about because you either do not have the knowledge to write a purposeful blog, or you do not have the ability to do so with independent ideas, then don’t bother. The rest of us that do this faithfully can see right through it.
Now if you are forced to “steal” copy to sound impressive.. try reading this first, “Brian Clark, How to Steal Great Content Ideas.”
I mean I enjoy a good fluff girl. Just talented enough to get us all off, but not talented enough to make it on their own or even make a difference. Sound like anyone you know? I can name a few…..
Do me a favor, here are my next few blog topics.
Twitter and MLB
Media and “hot” words through the generations
Blackberry addicts and Social media Applications
Go copy someones blogs, articles and news reports… post it with a bunch of links and rewrite the parts you want to “steal”, and send it to me. Thus saving me the trouble of fully researching them, learning everything I can about the topic, studying so that if I am EVER asked a question on the fly in public I am fully informed and can answer with out sounding like an idiot… and I can just copy yours
