NCP Girls battle back to take 2nd at CMPW Cheer Competition.

On November 1, 2010 in blogging

I have had a few people, not from the Gardner area, ask to see the article I submitted for NCP to the Gardner News.  Since I wrote it, I can also put it here for you to see if you live out of state.

They made a few small changes, to change the narrative it was written in, but that’s all.

Read below:

In the same year that it was debated whether cheerleading is a sport or an activity, the North County Panthers Cheerleading squads take to the mats with their 2010 program and answer yes, we are athletes!  With first year Cheer Director Jill Markley at the helm, the groups had a chance to “Bring It On”?last weekend at the Central Mass Pop Warner Cheer Competition held at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Ma. Teams from NCP competed in two different divisions, grabbing a stunning second place in each division.  There is an old cheer quote that says, “What does it take to be a champion?  Give me 2 minutes and 30 seconds and I will show you!”  Do you have 5 minutes?  That is what you will need, because the NCP girls have done it twice!

Both the NCP Jr. Pee Wee Cheer Squad and the NCP Jr. Midget Cheer Squad came back after weeks of hard work, many set backs, and enormous obstacles to place 2nd and win their bid to the Pop Warner Regional Qualifiers.  The experience was a new one for the cheerleaders, who had a more technical and difficult routine this year after transitioning to a more competitive, year round cheer program.  The coaching staff worked tirelessly to bring these  teams together and make the girls believe in themselves.   After taking second place, one of the veteran cheerleaders exclaimed, “This is what it feels like to win!”, after many seasons of finishing at the bottom.  The squads performed a two and a half minute routine comprised of significant tumbling, stunting, dance and cheer.  The teams could not have been more nervous going into the competition on Sunday, but the girls handled it with grace.  The coaching staff for both teams could not have been prouder or happier for the girls.  Championships are won at practice, and these girls gave it all!

All of our NCP cheer teams worked hard and showed great improvement this year.  Going into the season, that was the goal of the entire NCP cheer coaching staff – have the girls show improvement and HAVE FUN!  All of our teams achieved that goal, and made us very proud as coaches.

Our next step?  Regional Qualifiers on November 7th at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Both teams will need to qualify to compete in Regionals later in the season.  Good luck to both teams!  Win or lose, this season was a huge success, with achievements made for both the cheer program and the cheerleaders.  We will be rooting for you!!

On July 28, 2010 in Internet News

Borrowed from Kidssportspsychology.com: For a number of reasons, many sports kids don’t believe in themselves–and that’s bad news for them, their teams and their coaches. Here are just a few causes: –> They doubt their abilities –> They’re perfectionists and expect too much –> Their parents pressure them too much When kids don’t believe in [...]
