Protesters Organize in Moldova and Form a Protest Using Facebook and Twitter. Gone are the days of sit ins!

Thousands of Moldovan youth were busy on Tuesday using  social messaging networks to assemble a massive rally in response to Sunday’s election results and the country’s  economy.  Protesters organized using Facebook and the Twitter tag #pman,  where the demonstrators gathered.  The protesters, some of whom stormed  government buildings, were reacting in part to the weekend’s  elections, in which the Communist Party won half of the votes.  Thus allowing them  enough votes to make changes to the constitution and select a president.  As the protest, and microblogs  increased,  the Internet was overwhelmed and cut off in the small eastern European country’s capital Chisinau.

Now, we understand it is a much safer protest for all involved.  Leading protests through microblogging and shutting down a city is a much safer way to do the same thing that many other have done before…. the same people that did it before often ended up dead.    Does anyone remember The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989?  That lovely protest reportedly left 2,000 to 3,000 dead.  I remember being a college student, and watching the news reports as young adults my own age were slaughtered.

I wonder who hatched this idea in the first place.  I bet we can profile him… yes I said him.  19 Years old, male, college student majoring in computer science.  I would say possibly geeky.. now I can officially say that as a geek myself!  Someone who is completely submersed in technology and the trends, with the ability to see the potential in all new technology to better themselves and the world we live in.

Hey Google???  Did you get his name… I have a future program developer for you!

Times are changing!  Always evolving!  The young is what tends to lead…….  good or bad, social media tools are here to stay.  They too will evolve……..and we too will with them.
